BREAKS
music composition for large ensemble and interactive video, 2006

Listen to Breaks, performd by Manhattan School of Music's Tactus Ensemble

For large ensemble and interactive video. Written for and premiered by the Manhattan School of Music's Tactus Ensemble at Taplin Auditorium, Princeton University. 10 minutes, 40 seconds.

Breaks is an exploration of energy: the gathering momentum and release of local and global waves of sound. The piece consists of two overtonal forces breaking over and under one another, lit sonically by the occasional ray of light permeating both chords; the imitation of natural sounds provides an ambient context for these forces, and controls an immersive video of natural light and shadow coded in Max/MSP/Jitter.
