PARK BENCH CINEMA: THROUGH THE CRACKS
participatory mobile audio walk, 2011

Mobile audio, audience participation. Commissioned by Elastic City. Through the Cracks was a Time Out New York Critic’s pick.
Through the Cracks is a 45-minute long walk for up to eight people through Manhattan’s Tin Pan Alley, birthplace of American popular music. Participants explore the sepia-stained music seeping through the cracks of the city’s sidewalks, and use sound as a portal through which to discover the enchanted, hidden life buried in the neighborhood. The groups sing and walk forwards, backwards, and in time-stretched loops, as memory intertwines with the present to create a moving and layered collage. This walk was led several times throughout the course of a weekend in July 2011.
